Author E.k. Blair helped me become a part of a private group on Facebook called “My Indie Author’s Beta Group”. I dropped a post looking for a Beta reader for my revised manuscript and I got a message back from Malinda. She offered to read my story and give me super honest feedback. When her email came in, I was speechless. Her words to me were beautiful, I cried tears of joy, and I will never forget her. Thank you Malinda.
Here’s what she said… **Note there are spoilers…**
I am going to start with the title question first. I love Drops of Rain best. I love in the last chapter she is sitting out by the ocean where it starts to rain and she is reflecting. She said she felt like the rain was cleansing to her now. It was moving how far she had come at this point.
Now on to the book. I want to start by saying that my typical method is to sit with a pad of paper and pen to jot down notes. What I found half way through was an empty note pad, other than a few notes regarding grammar, or sentencing structure. Nothing regarding the storyline.
You had me enamored from page one. I was so wrapped up in it that once I started, I didn’t want it to end. To feel her pain of losing her mom was gut wrenching. Her counting the days since her death was chilling. I know how much I love my mom and how much love I feel for my children so to know someone she loved so much was tragically taken was… No words. Then to be uprooted from her life and abandoned by her father? Someone needs to smack that man! (Yes I know he is a character of a book).
Drew was the staple of his family who put so much of the blame on himself that I was glad to finally see him let his guard down to be with her completely! When he finally let his trust in her show through and he cried in her arms, so did I! I don’t cry easily in real life so this really touched my soul! I had never gasped so loudly when he came in to his mom having been beaten and seeing his brother bloodied up like that. I cried again for him. Those tears did turn into a “hell yeah!” When he beat the crap out his dad though. I then was pissed when he was arrested. So, to simply put, you had my emotions going on a roller coaster ride during this entire part!!!
I will say though that my shining star was Beau. He was such the strong guy, seeming to hold it together for both himself and Drew, but to break the way he did and go to “Tiny” when crap hit the fan… His true self shined through. His gruff exterior was just that…. A cover. Coach Black coming to the rescue was like a white cloud.
Thank you so much for letting me read this book for you! You have brought me to a place that I haven’t seen in a while.. A place of hope. I know it’s a story, a book, but for someone like me who doesn’t see life like this very often, you brought it home for me. I would be touched and honored to read for you again!!!!!!!
I hope I answered any questions you had regarding flow, storyline, ect. If you have anymore for me, don’t hesitate to ask…
